Why I read this book: My book club gave it out for free and I was really bored one day so I picked it up.

Opinion: I have to say that I was completely shocked when I started to read Divergent. From the cover and the massive obsession with the book almost everywhere, I was really hesitant to read it. To me it looked like a wannabe Hunger Games and I really didn’t want to read a riff off of that really great trilogy. But when my book club gave it out for free I was like, hey, free book. When I started reading it though, it quickly captured my attention. Yes there are a lot of similar aspects to the Hunger Games trilogy but the author Roth, made the story completely her own. Right off the bat this idea of factions that was incorporated into this story was really mesmerizing. How at 16 years old you have to chose one of five factions, that each value one specific… I don’t know value? They value values. At first though, all the different factions were super confusing trying to keep track of them all but as you kept reading you got the hang of it. Personally if I got to choose a faction I think I would want to be Dauntless because it’s the only faction really that takes risks and welcomes the unknown and I thought that was pretty cool. This was also the first book in a while that I read that I really REALLY liked the main character. She didn’t play the victim card at all and she wasn’t afraid to make a move or go against everything shed ever known. And then there was Four, oh my gosh, Four was amazing!! The only thing that irritated me about him was that his real name was Tobias, I mean, Tobias? Really? And then Tris kept calling him that and it just to me personally is not the most appealing name. In Divergent there were just so many twists and turns and it honestly kept me on my toes the entire time. I don’t want to give away anything but the last couple chapters of the book were my all time favorite. There was so much action and suspense and all I have to say was that my mind was completely blown. The antagonists in this book as well were really great and Roth made them into characters that you could absolutely hate. I surely did not give this book enough credit in the beginning and it completely took me by surprise. I just picked up the second book in this trilogy and I can’t wait to start reading it. If you love romance and action and rebellion squished into 487 pages go order Divergent on Amazon, now.
